Preventing users from installing Google Desktop Search

Desktop Search users need to be aware of the application’s potential security risks. If your employees do not understand these risks, you (System Admin) can easily prevent them from installing GDS.

Google Desktop supports a group policy flag in the registry to prevent installation.

If the administrator sets the following keys in the registry, the user will see the following message: “Your Administrative Policy does not allow this version of Google Desktop Search.

"HKLM\Software\Policies\Google\Google Desktop\
"HKCU\Software\Policies\Google\Google Desktop\
